AIKEN, S.C. — There will be a different kind of demonstration Saturday in South Carolina. This kind of movement will be people showing off dance moves.
The Black Lives Matter organization in Aiken is hosting a dance-a-thon at the H. Odell Weeks Activities Center -- the same site the group used last week to protest social injustice and police brutality, the Aiken Standard reported.
Makenzie Johnson, one of the event’s organizers, said the dance-a-thon will take place near the center’s picnic center, and not in the parking lot.
“This is just a way for us to keep the community coming together and focused,” Johnson told the Standard.
Johnson said the group hopes to raise money and spread its message during an event that will be “light and fun" and family-friendly.
No protests or demonstrations are planned for Sunday, Johnson said. A large Juneteenth rally, though, is planned for June 20, the Standard reported.
