President Joe Biden on Wednesday announced a series of incentives to push those who have not yet gotten a COVID-19 vaccine to sign up for one.
Biden announced Wednesday that Anheuser-Busch, the national brewer that produces Budweiser, will give away free beer if 70% of US adults receive at least one dose of the vaccine by July 4 — a goal Biden set earlier this year.
“That’s right: Get a shot, have a beer,” Biden said. “We need everyone across the country to pull together to get us over the finish line,” he said. “I promise you, we can do this.”
Twelve U.S. states now have 70% of adult residents with at least one COVID-19 vaccine shot, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The CDC reports that 60.2% of the U.S. population over the age of 12 has gotten at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 48.6% are fully vaccinated. As of Thursday, 136 million people in the U.S. had been fully vaccinated
Anheuser-Busch said in a news release that the company, “will buy America’s next round of beer, seltzer, non-alcoholic beverage or other A-B product,” if the vaccination goal is reached by July 4.
“At Anheuser-Busch, we are committed to supporting the safe and strong recovery of our nation and being able to be together again at the places and with the people we have missed so much. This commitment includes encouraging Americans to get vaccinated, and we are excited to buy Americans 21+ a round of beer when we reach the White House goal,” said Michel Doukeris, CEO, Anheuser-Busch.
There is no purchase necessary. The chance for the $5 virtual debit card to be used for the purchase of an A-B product is open to US residents, excluding those in Alabama, California, Texas. The give-away begins when 70% of U.S. adults receive at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose and ends at 11:59 EDT on the seventh day following the date that the CDC confirms that 70% of adults have received at least one vaccine, or until all prizes have been awarded, whichever comes first.
