CALABASAS, California — Benjamin Keough, the son of Lisa Marie Presley and grandson of Elvis Presley, has died at the age of 27, multiple media outlets reported.
“(Lisa Marie Presley) is completely heartbroken, inconsolable and beyond devastated but trying to stay strong for her 11-year-old twins and her oldest daughter, Riley. She adored that boy. He was the love of her life,” Lisa Marie Presley’s representative told The Hollywood Reporter.
Benjamin Keough also was the brother of actress Riley Keough, 31, and son of musician Danny Keough, who divorced Lisa Marie Presley in 1994. His maternal grandmother was Priscilla Presley, TMZ reported.
According to THR, Benjamin Keough at one point attempted to follow in the crooning footsteps of his famous grandfather, signing a $5 million record deal with Universal in 2009 to record as many as five albums. No albums were ever released.
“He’s doing his own thing right now,” Lisa Marie Presley told HuffPost in 2013 of Benjamin Keough. “I’m going to let him decide when he wants to go out and do what he wants to do.”
Citing unnamed law enforcement sources, TMZ reported that Benjamin Keough died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound on Sunday in Calabasas, California, but the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department has not yet confirmed a cause of death.
One of Lisa Marie Presley’s most recent social media posts, from June 2019, features the singer with her four children, including Benjamin Keough, Riley Keough and 11-year-old twins, Finley and Harper Lockwood.
