Ruggedized Apple Watch, updated AirPods Pro and always-on iPhone 14 Pro announced at Apple Event

CUPERTINO, Calif. — Apple unveiled new and updated products at its annual Apple event on Wednesday, including a redesigned Apple Watch, an improved AirPod Pro design and an “always on” display on the iPhone 14 Pro.

After months of rumors, Apple released a new lineup of popular products.

Apple Watch

Apple announced the release of three redesigned watches, each targeting a different type of user.

  • Apple Watch SE: One of Apple’s affordable smartwatches will be available in new colors and is faster than previous SE models.
  • Apple Watch Ultra: One of the most anticipated announcements at the event was a redesigned Apple Watch for outdoor athletes. According to USA Today, the Apple Watch Ultra boasts 60 hours of battery life and can handle extreme temperatures.

AirPods Pro

While the design of the next generation of AirPod Pro will remain the same, the popular earbuds will get some improvements.

  • Users can now control the volume on the stem of the AirPods.
  • Noise cancellation is reportedly two times better than the 2019 AirPod Pro.
  • The battery life has improved from 4.5 to 6 hours of listening time, according to The Wall Street Journal.

iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus

The latest iPhone 14 models will come in five colors and have a longer battery life than their predecessors.

  • The iPhone 14 models will feature a new 12-megapixel primary camera with a bigger sensor for low-light photography.
  • Video recording will have a new stabilization mode for recording action shots.
  • Apple announced that new iPhones would feature an eSIM that will allow users to connect to their carrier without the need for a SIM card.

iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max

The pricier iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max have a redesigned screen that moves the camera and sensor “notch” from the top edge to the screen in what Apple calls a “dynamic island.”

  • The Pro lineup will have an “always-on” display.
  • The phones will have more powerful cameras and video processing than their predecessors.

Other notable announcements

One of the biggest focuses in the 2022 Apple Event was safety. Multiple Apple products will include various safety features that can save lives in an emergency.

  • Crash detection: Both the iPhone 14 and latest Apple Watches will sense if you have been in a crash and will automatically notify emergency services.
  • Emergency SOS: iPhone 14 will include a service that allows the phone to communicate with satellites in an emergency.
  • The Apple Watch Ultra will include an 86-decibel siren that can signal for help over 180 meters away

Some iPhone 14 models go on sale at the end of the week with shipping dates as late as Sept. 23.

According to The Associated Press, the event was the first in-person product launch since the coronavirus pandemic began.
