SEATAC, Wash. — Officials are suggesting visitors of a Washington park to wear a helmet after reports of an “aggressive owl.”
According to KIRO, the city of SeaTac, Washington, is warning people about an “aggressive owl” at the North SeaTac Park. City officials suggest visitors bring a helmet.
The city posted a sign at the park that urges visitors also to use caution or to avoid the area altogether.
The city said that the Washington State Department of Fish & Wildlife is aware of the aggressive owl and suggested the following:
“If you must walk past a nest, wave your arms slowly overhead to keep the birds at a distance. Other protective actions include wearing a hat or helmet, or carrying an umbrella,” according to the sign.
According to KIRO, the angry bird is either a barred or great-horned owl which are both common owl types in the area. Owls can become aggressive several times a year, especially in the spring and fall. KIRO said that most aggressive incidents involving owls happen either during the late evening or in the early morning.
No owl-related injuries have been reported at the park, according to KIRO. Attacks are usually rare.
I relate to this owl that we are warning people about @ North #SeaTac Park 😂 I would be annoyed too if people intruded in my home/quiet time. Beware of owl, respect wildlife. @waDNR @KCDNRP @WDFW #KingCounty #parks #nature #animals pic.twitter.com/ZHfhP43AwT
