The Buckeyes routed Clemson 49-28 to earn a spot in the title game. Alabama beat Notre Dame 31-14 to move into the other slot.
Alabama will be playing in its fifth CFP championship game in the past six seasons behind the play of two Heisman Trophy finalists — receiver DeVonta Smith and quarterback Mac Jones.
Ohio State’s quarterback Justin Fields threw a Sugar Bowl-record six touchdown passes for 427 total yards in the game.
