Airlines canceled more than 1,600 flights nationwide on Thursday, The Associated Press reported.

According to FlightAware, a service that tracks flights, more than a third of all flights at New York’s LaGuardia Airport and 25% of flights were scrubbed at nearby Liberty Airport in New Jersey.

As of Thursday evening, 1,641 flights flying into, out of and across the U.S. have been canceled, according to FlightAware.

More than 7,400 other flights experienced some kind of delay, FlightAware said.

The cancellations come less than three weeks after airlines canceled nearly 4,700 flights during the first two-and-a-half days of the Memorial Day weekend.

According to the AP, airlines have thousands of fewer employees than they did in 2019, and that has at times contributed to widespread flight cancellations.
