ELGIN, Ill. — One person was killed and five others were wounded in a shooting at a suburban Chicago apartment complex early Sunday, authorities said.
Police in Elgin, Illinois, responded to a shooting at about 1:59 a.m. CDT, WLS-TV reported. Officers discovered five injured people, who were taken to area hospitals. Police were later notified about a sixth injured person, who was transported separately to a hospital, according to the television station.
Update 3:45 p.m. EDT April 10: Elgin police said one of the six people injured in the Sunday morning shooting died, WLS-TV reported.
The name of the deceased person is being withheld and will be released by the Kane County Coroner’s Office pending an autopsy, the Elgin Police Department said in a news release posted to its Facebook page.
Original report: According to police, a preliminary investigation determined that the incident occurred during a gathering and appears to be an isolated incident, WBBM-TV reported.

In addition to the three people in critical condition, two other victims were listed in serious condition, WLS reported.
The identities and ages of the victims were not disclosed, the Chicago Sun-Times reported. A motive for the shooting is unknown.
Detectives from the Elgin Police Department are investigating the case, according to the Daily Herald of Arlington Heights.
