KENNETT, Mo. — One person was killed and four were injured in an early Sunday morning shooting at the American Legion building in Kennett, Missouri.
Kennett Chief of Police Kenny Wilson told KFVS that officers will be “working around the clock for the next few days” to determine what led to the 12:25 a.m. shooting.
“Right now, we have a team of officers in different towns just running down different leads. Hopefully we’ll come up with something by the end of the day, but right now we do not have any suspect information. I wish we did, but right now this is where we are in the investigation,” Wilson told the TV station.
According to a news release issued by the department, responding officers discovered a total of five shooting victims, including one who later died from his injuries. The other four victims were transported to area hospitals, but two of the victims were later air-lifted in critical condition to another facility in Cape Girardeau, KAIT reported.
Wilson told KFVS that the shooting occurred at a private event with hundreds of people in attendance. None of the victims has been identified.
