ATLANTA — An Uber driver was beaten, pepper-sprayed and carjacked by two women she said she picked up, Atlanta police said Monday.
Cricket Diggs, a Cobb County resident, was taken to Atlanta Medical Center for treatment after police found her “laying on the ground, bleeding” Saturday morning in the 1500 block of Langston Avenue, according to the police report.
Diggs told police she picked up the women at Georgia State University, but GSU Police Chief Joseph Spillane said “we do not have information verified” that they were picked up on campus.
"This is my car now," one of the women told Diggs after she took the keys from the ignition and walked to the driver's-side door, authorities said.
The woman made that move after Diggs asked them to get out of the car since she noticed they had canceled their trip.
When the women refused, Diggs stopped the car and called 911, police said.
Before Diggs could get out of the car, the woman hit Diggs in the face multiple times, police said, knocking her into the passenger seat. The other passenger began pulling Diggs out of the vehicle and pepper-sprayed her.
The woman who took the keys began driving, with Diggs partially out of the vehicle.
“The two females continued to punch Ms. Diggs while the vehicle was moving,” police said.
Diggs got out of the car at Langston Avenue and Carnes Place.
The car was recovered in East Point and, after being processed for fingerprints, released to her husband, Andrew Diggs, the owner.
The women took Diggs' cellphone, identification and bank cards, according to WSB-TV.
“I’m glad we got the car back,” Diggs said, “but I’m angry that they took everything in the car.”
