MILLBURY, Mass. — Police in Millbury, Massachusetts, have charged the wife of a police officer after they say she lied about a home burglary.

Millbury Officer Daniel Daly reported the burglary on Oct. 17.

The side of the couple's home had been painted with the letters "BLM," which stands for Black Lives Matter.

The family also said thousands of dollars worth of jewelry was taken.

Following an investigation, police determined that Daly's wife, Maria Daly, fabricated the story. Police said there is no evidence that Officer Daly knew the story was fake.

Police said the "missing jewelry" was recovered and that the lie was motivated by financial difficulty.

Maria Daly confessed to police, the chief of police said. She has been charged with filing a false police report and misleading a police investigation.
