CAMERON, N.C. — A North Carolina woman is facing felony charges, accused of starving her three children with special needs, authorities said.
Savannah Lewis, 29, was arrested on Oct. 10 and charged with two counts of felony child abuse,
reported. Law enforcement received an anonymous tip about possible drug activity taking place at the Lewis home, and when officers arrived, they found three severely malnourished children,
reported.
A 15-year-old boy weighed 48 pounds, and his 13-year-old sister weighed less than that, a law enforcement source told
. The two teens were so malnourished that they required hospitalization, while a 10-year-old child, also malnourished, did not require treatment, authorities said.
Harnett County Sheriff Wayne Coats told
that it's the worst case of child abuse that he's seen.
According to Harnett County Jail records, Lewis is being held on a $400,000 bond while awaiting trial.
