Officials from the Tucson Sector of Customs and Border Patrol, along with members of Mexico’s Federal Police, found the tunnel while conducting a “cooperative bi-national tunnel sweep,” according the television station.
According to the news release from Customs and Border Protection, the entry point for the tunnel was several meters below street level, inside "a legitimate cross-border" storm drain that enters the United States from Mexico. The tunnel is located approximately 75 yards west of the Port of Nogales at the DeConcini Crossing.
Authorities from both countries said they found various digging and cutting tools in the tunnel. No arrests have been made yet, according to the news release from Customs and Border Patrol.
