Hurricane Dorian: Employees sent home from President Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort

With Hurricane Dorian threatening Florida's east coast, residents are boarding up their homes and stocking up on supplies.

Where the storm could make landfall was still uncertain early Friday, but it seems likely President Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach and the Trump Doral resort in South Florida will be affected, the Miami Herald reported.

Dorian is projected to make landfall as a Category 4 hurricane Monday, with the area between Melbourne and Fort Pierce the likely landing spots for the storm. Gov. Ron DeSantis expanded the state of emergency he declared to all 67 Florida counties Thursday and eased fuel restrictions, the Sun-Sentinel reported.

Except for security personnel, all employees of Mar-a-Lago were sent home until the storm passes through the state, the Herald reported. The club, built in 1927 and bought by Trump in 1985, is currently closed until October, the newspaper reported.

Pools and other amenities have been closed at Trump Doral and generators are in place, a representative of the resort told the Herald.

The U.S. Secret Service declined to respond to questions about security measures at Mar-a-Lago in anticipation of the storm, the Tampa Bay Times reported. The Trump Organization and the White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment, the newspaper reported.

Mar-a-Lago guests had to evacuate during Hurricane Irma in 2017, the Times reported.
