Arizona man stung to death by bees, police say

YUMA, Ariz. — A 51-year-old Arizona man died Sunday night after he was attacked by bees, KNXV reported.

According to the Yuma County Sheriff's Office, Epigmenio Gonzalez, of Yuma, went out to his backyard to remove a beehive from a couch when the bees attacked, the television station reported.

When deputies arrived, Gonzalez had run to his front yard, the Arizona Republic reported. Firefighters sprayed Gonzalez with water so first responders could take him to the hospital, the newspaper reported.

Gonzalez was taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead, KPNX reported.

A woman at the same residence also suffered numerous bee stings and was taken to a hospital, KNXV reported. Her condition has not been released, the television station reported. Several deputies and firefighters also were stung but did not require medical attention, according to the Republic.
