15-year-old Georgia student arrested after video shows locker room assault

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. — A 15-year-old Lawrenceville, Georgia, high school student has been arrested and charged with battery after a viral video showed her punching a classmate in the face, WSB reported.

A Gwinnett County Public Schools spokesman said the student was not identified because student information is private.

The Archer High School student is seen standing up and speaking to another student who was sitting on a locker room bench. Before punching the victim, the assailant says, “You couldn’t kick my (expletive),” to which the victim responds “I wouldn’t want to.” The assailant then asks the victim, “Why you so scared?” twice before lunging toward her and punching her in the face. The victim runs toward other students, and the assailant is not seen on video after the punch is thrown.

The video of the fight went viral after a California woman posted it on Twitter and gave the name the student who threw the punch. It asks readers to call Archer High School and provides the school's phone number.

The post was retweeted more than 90,000 times.

The incident occurred in a girls’ locker room on Friday, according to a message Principal Ken Johnson sent to parents.

“We took immediate disciplinary action wit the student and our School Resource Officer is involved and criminal charges are pending,” Johnson said in a message to the community. “I appreciate those of you who have reached out to us to make sure we are aware of this incident. Like you, we believe that this type of behavior is not acceptable and I want to reassure you that we have already taken swift and appropriate action.”

School leaders would not say what discipline they took with the student, citing privacy issues. Officials did say that a battery charge typically leads to a suspension for up to 10 days.
