Major storms made rush hour dangerous for drivers trying to get home Wednesday evening.
In Mint Hill, police believe the driver of a truck swerved to avoid a tree leaning over Lawyers Road.
The truck flipped and landed in a nearby creek and paramedics checked on two people for possible injuries.
Also in Mint Hill, Thompson Road was shut down but because of major flooding.
Dozens of residents couldn't get home because several driveways were flooded.
"This is like the 10-year flood for us," said one homeowner

9:45 PM UPDATE: An areal flood warning was issued for Union County until 3:30 a.m. Thursday.
9 PM UPDATE: Gauge sites on Goose Creek near Indian Trail and Fairview are above flood stage, the National Weather Service reported.

Lightning was to blame for at least one house fire, which was on Taunton Drive, officials said.

4:45 PM UPDATE: Inbound flights at Charlotte Douglas are being held until 5:15 due to thunderstorms in the area.
4:15 PM UPDATE: A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for Cabarrus and Rowan counties.
Wet weather pushing out: The heavier rain from last night has moved along, but a few small showers may pop Wednesday morning. Additional rainfall in the morning hours will be isolated.

Tuesday flooding: Heavy downpours Tuesday night caused flooding in some areas, mainly south of Charlotte. Intense flooding caused three vehicles to be swept off Billy Howey Road in Waxhaw, and forced some roads in the area to be closed. The fire department was called to help the drivers of those vehicles but officials said nobody was hurt.

Looking ahead: High temperatures will reach close to 90 degrees again this afternoon. Storm chances remain decent through Thursday as a cold front pushes through the metro area. Once that passes south of Charlotte Thursday night, drier air returns.
