TRACKING DORIAN: Wrightsville Beach impact

WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, N.C. — As Hurricane Dorian makes its way up the Carolina coast, the impacts of the storm can already be felt in the Wrightsville Beach area.

Dorian is expected to reach the area late Thursday night.

With over 5 inches of rain and wind gusts of nearly 35 mph ahead of the storm, residents are bracing themselves for the worst.

"It's time to leave. The skies are ominous and threatening. Looking for a little break in the action, so I can get home and be with my family," said visitor Greg Gianoplus.

The heavy rain has also caused substantial damage to roads in the area, making it dangerous for drivers to be out on the streets.

Channel 9's Ken Lemon is in the area covering the storm and said one driver tried to make it through the floodwaters but eventually had to push his car back out.
