Speculation swirls that ‘The Bachelorette' is filming at Ballantyne house

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Trucks, tents and a huge film crew set up at a mansion in Charlotte's Ballantyne area.

Speculation is swirling that a hit TV show is being filmed at the house. Many are guessing it's the new season of “The Bachelorette” because the star, Emily Maynard, is from Charlotte.

Evermay is a private gated community off Marvin Road in Ballantyne.

From the street, it's quiet. Eyewitness News saw some tents and workers building things.

But from Chopper 9, you could see the massive effort involved at the south Charlotte mansion, with trucks and heavy equipment, light rigging and camera booms outside.

ABC won't confirm that “The Bachelorette” is being filmed there.

But people who live just yards away in the Cedarwalk townhomes think they know.

“I heard they are filming 'The Bachelorette,’” one area resident said.

Online blogs also say it's true, posting interior pictures of the mansion. Inside, they say, Maynard will be courted by dozens of bachelors.

“I have a very good friend who is ‘Bachelorette’ crazy and she called me and told me,” Lori Fencl said. “And we have also seen helicopters that come and land back there as well.”

“Who do you think is in the chopper?” Eyewitness News asked.

“I’m guessing it's Emily,” she said.

Neighbors said they haven't heard much noise but they have noticed trees in the home’s back yard light up every night.

“There were a bunch of lights always at night -- green lights, blue lights,” Allen Fox said.

While not confirmed, many hope it’s true. It could shine a spotlight on Charlotte for the world to see.

“It’s going to give more attention to our town," Fencl said. "Hopefully, they will see through all the dates they go on how great this place is.”
