ANDERSON, S.C. — An 11-year-old girl is dead and two other girls are recovering after more than 35 gunshots were fired at a South Carolina home.
News outlets report someone opened fire on the Anderson home early Sunday morning. Police Chief Jim Stewart identified the girl who died as Ja'Naiya Scott. The other 11-year-old who was shot is in critical condition. The 18-year-old has been upgraded from critical condition to stable.
Stewart says investigators have not determined whether the home was targeted. Investigators are also looking in to whether it was a drive-by shooting.
Stewart described the shooting as "tragic and senseless." Police have not made any arrests or named any suspects.
Scott's death has been ruled a homicide. An autopsy is planned for Tuesday.
