9 Investigates: RushCard problems cause concern

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Oct. 19 UPDATE: We have new information for Rush Card customers having trouble accessing their own money. The company says those impacted should email: community@rushcard.com.

Include your full name, your address, the last four numbers on the card and a phone number.

Rush Card says it will call you and talk you through the fix. The business says it was upgrading its system early last week and had problems.

Many people who use the RushCard are worried -- their accounts are frozen.

Action 9 Investigator Jason Stoogenke said they can't access their money.

Earlier this week RushCard upgraded its system but there were problems and people have bills to pay.

Kinya Roseboro uses a RushCard for all her banking. Her paychecks go directly onto the card.

One major benefit of the RushCard is it allows you to take out the money put on it two days before the actual payday.

But this week many are finding out the hard way they can't withdraw the money.

Roseboro’s rent, utilities and credit card bills are due. She spent the day begging for more time and they agreed.

"I just bust out crying because I'm not used to asking people for stuff and I don't want to ask nobody for nothing. I'll stand on my own 2 feet and I always have," Roseboro said.

The man behind the RushCard, hip-hop legend Russell Simmons, apologized on Facebook and even posted a video to customers.

“I want to personally reassure you that your funds are safe and that we are addressing every issue as quickly as possible,” Simmons said in the video.

"All I want is my money. That's it," Roseboro said.

But until Roseboro can get her hands on that money, no words make her feel better.

Another woman that Stoogenke was also in contact with said she has gained access back to her money.

“I feel bad for people who are still waiting,” she said.
