ROCK HILL, S.C. — Rock Hill Police are trying to track down whoever is throwing objects off two bridges and onto Dave Lyle Boulevard. In some instances, the items thrown have hit cars.
A woman reported driving Dave Lyle Boulevard around 10 p.m. Thursday when a group of people threw several cones onto the road from the Oakland Avenue bridge. One cone struck the car and damage the windshield and passenger rear-view mirror, the report said.
The woman spoke to Eyewitness News, but asked to remain anonymous.
"It scared us and we almost wrecked the car," the driver said.
The woman said she had two children in the car at the time of the accident. She pulled over shortly after but the people who threw the cones had fled.
"They must have took off running because I ain't see nothing," she said.
Rock Hill Police say similar incidents happened several times over the summer at the Oakland and Charlotte Avenue bridges over Dave Lyle Boulevard. In some instances, rocks were thrown.
"Rocks can go through your windshield and injure you and if you lose control of your vehicle it could result in death," said Capt. Mark Bollinger, spokesman for the Rock Hill Police Department.
There haven't been any injuries or serious damage yet, police said. However, individuals involved could face fines and jail time if caught.
