Rescue Ranch FAQs

What is Rescue Ranch and what does it do?

Rescue Ranch is a 501c(3) animal welfare organization formed in January 2012. We are located on an 87-acre site in Statesville, North Carolina, with plans for an administration/education facility, adoption center, veterinary clinic, boarding facility, large animal barns, therapeutic riding arena, riding trails and dog park. We are in the early stages of rolling the Ryan Newman Foundation under the umbrella of Rescue Ranch. Rescue Ranch will encompass the mission of the Ryan Newman Foundation and more: to promote and provide humane education to enhance the human-animal bond; compassionate rescue; low-cost spay/neuter services and responsible adoption in an effort to end pet overpopulation and its associated suffering.

The Ranch will commence operation in stages, beginning with its Humane Education Programs targeted for the fall of 2013. Implementation of the Rescue Center/Adoption Program and the Boarding Program will follow, with timing dependent on the success of the capital campaigns and securing funding through corporate sponsors and charitable contributions.

What kinds of programs will be at Rescue Ranch?

Rescue Ranch programs will kick off in 2013 with our Humane Education Center. These include Girl and Boy Scout badges, summer camps, toddler classes, tours and local school presentations. Our site has plans for an adoption center, riding trails, veterinary clinic, boarding facility, therapeutic riding arena, barns and pasture area. Where do your animals come from?

All animals at Rescue Ranch are from transfers, from other shelters, from owner surrenders, or have the need to be adopted/re-homed with us.

Are you a no-kill shelter? I’m looking to adopt a pet; do you do adoptions?

We are in the first phase of our site construction, including our Humane Education Building. Our adoption center will be coming in the next few phases of development. We currently do not handle pet intake or adoptions, but encourage you to contact your local rescue organization.

Our goal will be to save 100% of the adoptable animals in our future adoption program. Although we will strive to place every adoptable animal, we cannot guarantee this. Animals whose temperament is judged to be a safety risk or whose health condition is too serious may be humanely euthanized. We understand this may be a touchy subject.

Does Rescue Ranch handle animal cruelty complaints?

No; Rescue Ranch does not handle animal control services. All instances or suspected instances of animal cruelty should be reported to your local Animal Control agency.

How can I get involved?

We rely on the assistance of volunteers for much of what we do and we encourage their participation. We use volunteers to fill many rolls in all of our programs. They will provide administrative and classroom support to our instructors in the humane education classes and programs. They will help with administrative duties, fundraising projects, public relations efforts, information technology and data entry, facilities maintenance and special projects. They will also help us by answering phones and greeting visitors. Volunteering is fun and easy, and just a few hours of your time can make a difference. If interested, please visit our volunteer page at www.rescueranch.com.

We also have opportunities for our capital campaign, holding wish list drives and organizing future events.

Do you board animals?

A boarding facility is in our plans for future phases of development. We are in the first phase of our site construction, including our Humane Education Building. We currently do not board pets at Rescue Ranch.

What will the Humane Education Center do?

The goal of the Humane Education Program is to inform the public on animal overpopulation issues and to promote respect and compassion for animals. The Ranch will offer a variety of activities to provide direction and instruction in animal behavior and habitats, the importance of rescue/adoption of animals, and responsible pet ownership. Additionally, Animal Day Camps will provide an opportunity for hands-on interaction between children and animals to enhance the learning process of respect, compassion and care of animals. All of our programs meet curriculum standards for the North Carolina school systems.
