Police: Woman Claimed To Run Animal Rescue Group To Get 9 Dogs

SHELBY, N.C.,None — A Shelby woman was arrested Sunday for allegedly pretending to be a part of an animal organization to get nine dogs, according to our newspaper partner the Shelby Star.

Lisa Hendren, 26, of the 1000 block of Dodd Street, was charged with obtaining property by false pretense.

A warrant for arrest states Hendren falsely represented herself as the head of a nonprofit organization called Liz and Lizards in order to get nine dogs. The warrant also states the organization cares for unwanted animals.

In April 2010, authorities accused Hendren of running an illegal animal rescue group and giving vaccines without a license. In December, she was charged with intentionally wounding and starving a horse.

Hendren is being held in the Cleveland County jail under a $25,000 secured bond.
