Police Identify Victim In Early-Morning Shooting

None — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating a fatal shooting that happened in northwest Charlotte.

Police said a sanitation worker called his work dispatcher after seeing the body in the intersection of Rozzelles Ferry Road and Green Street at about 2 a.m. Wednesday. The dispatcher then called 911.

Waylon Williams, 30, had been shot multiple times and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Williams was schizophrenic, investigators said.

Williams' mother called police and said her son was missing after waking up and realizing he was gone. Soon after she made that call, police identified him as the shooting victim.

Officers closed off the area for several hours while they investigated, reopening it a little after 5 a.m.

No arrests have been made. Investigators spent much of Wednesday morning talking to drivers and business owners in the area, trying to gather more information about what happened.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS.
