LENOIR, N.C. — Police were investigating a homicide that involved a man from Lenoir being shot and killed in Wilkes County, officials told Channel 9 on Tuesday morning.

Police said Eleuterio Vasquez Petrez, 38, was killed by Donnie Ward, 41, and Petrez' body was rolled off a mountainside.

Ward was arrested and locked up in Wilkes County, charged with murder after investigators said he led them to the body.

Charles Watts lives in Lenoir and saw nearly a dozen officers swarm around a home. Police said his neighbor Ward called 911 admitting to shooting Petrez inside his car in Wilkes County.

After Ward got rid of the body, he drove the vehicle back to his house, police said.

"Looked like about 20 cop cars in the road.  Three or four over there and one cop had a big gun on him," Watts said.

Channel 9 has learned the two men did know each other. Investigators believe they had gotten into a disagreement before the shooting.

Petrez' cousin, Rosita Perez, told Channel 9 the family has a lot of questions why and wants to know the motive behind the shooting.

"He's happy, happy every day," cousin Delmi Perez said. "(He) helped the family. He would help people."
