FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Authorities have arrested a man suspected of raping a woman in a North Carolina park nearly three decades ago.
The Fayetteville Police Department said in a statement Thursday that DNA recovered from the crime scene in late 2017 linked 54-year-old Wilbur D. McGill to the November 1990 rape.
The Herald-Sun reports that the victim was with her 1-year-old child at a park when a man attacked and raped her before stealing her car.
McGill is being held in Orange County, Florida, until authorities can return him to North Carolina, where he faces charges including first-degree rape, first-degree kidnapping and robbery with a dangerous weapon.
