NC school resource officer pleads to sex with student

HENDERSONVILLE, N.C. — (AP) A former Henderson County school resource officer has pleaded guilty to a sex offense with a student.

Multiple media outlets reported that a judge in Hendersonville on Tuesday sentenced 28-year-old Daniel Lindsey to at least 30 months in prison for having sex with a 16-year-old student at Balfour School.

Prosecutors said none of the acts that occurred in 2013 appeared to have happened on school property. They said the relationship seemed consensual.

Lindsey's attorney said his client had a consensual relationship with the teen before he began working at the school.

District Attorney Greg Newman said those working in schools are held to a higher standard. It is illegal for teachers and police officers to have sex with students.

Lindsey must register as a sex offender when he is released.
