Mooresville shooting range issues statement on death of man

MOORESVILLE, N.C.,None — Few details have been released in Tuesday's suicide of a man at a Mooresville indoor shooting range.

Police said an autopsy of the victim was underway Wednesday morning. His name has not been released but police said Wednesday afternoon the victim was a 59-year-old man.

The man apparently died from a self-inflicted handgun wound about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Point Blank Range on N.C. 150. Police have not released any details of the incident yet, other than to confirm that the death was intentional and that no other people were involved.

Tuesday night, officials of Point Blank Range issued the following statement, but offered no details of what happened:

"We are deeply saddened by the tragic event that occurred at our range today and we offer our prayers and condolences to his family.

"Our organization is committed to the safety of our patrons, members and staff and has in place protocols designed to mitigate the potential for any intentional or accidental shooting. Today, our highly trained staff followed those protocols and implemented other procedures to ensure that the safety of the other patrons in the range was not compromised."
