Police: Mooresville man calls 911 to say he shot wife; charged with murder

MOORESVILLE, N.C. — A man has been charged with murder after police said he called 911 to report that he shot his wife, investigators said.

Mooresville police said it happened Sunday around 5:15 p.m. Officers said they were called to Laurel Glen Drive for a shooting at a home. According to police, the caller told 911 dispatchers he had shot his wife.

Police said officers arrived to find 39-year-old Annalene Julia Trocke shot inside the home. She died from her injuries, officers said.

Detectives collected evidence and interviewed 39-year-old Derik Thomas Trocke, and then charged him with first-degree murder. He was taken to the Iredell County jail and was given no bond, police said.

On Monday, Channel 9′s Dave Faherty went to the neighborhood where the shooting happened -- the Cherry Grove subdivision.

Neighbors told Faherty there were children inside the home when it happened. They said the couple has four children between 13 years old and 1 year old.

Izwak Torres had just left his home when he spotted a line of police cars racing toward the neighborhood. He told Faherty he called his children, who told him they could see officers arriving at the home next door -- a home that had several children inside.

“Four children -- it’s horrible, horrific,” Torres said. “I would just urge everyone of the faith to send prayers out for this entire family and what they’re going to have to go through. It’s just horrible.”

Neighbors said the four children were moved quickly out of the home as police spent more than eight hours collecting evidence Sunday night.

Crystal Pressley didn’t know the couple, but said Cherry Grove attracts a lot of families.

“My heart just goes out to the kids and the family,” Pressley said. “You know their lives are completely changed in an instant.”

Neighbors said the grandparents often stayed at the home, but were not there when the murder happened. Torres said he would see the mother and younger children in the yard but never saw any red flags that something might be wrong.

“They seemed like a very nice family,” he said. “There weren’t any signs that I could pick up, but I guess you never know, I guess.”

There was no indication from any of the neighbors that police had ever been called to the home in the past.

Police did not release a motive for the murder.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
