SAN GABRIEL, CALIFORNIA — A man in a standoff with authorities Thursday in San Gabriel, California set off fireworks, which sparked fires in nearby buildings.

He exchanged gunfire with police as he ran through different parts of the house, into the yard and hid under vehicles, as seen from a TV station helicopter.
It appeared he was carrying guns, which he refused to surrender to SWAT for six hours.
Authorities shot tear gas into the home and the man was forced outside when officers shot him.
The man's condition was not released.
