CHARLOTTE, N.C.,None — Laroy Hill said he was driving home from a friend's house on WT Harris Boulevard when a car going the wrong direction hit him head-on early Monday morning.

The 25-year-old calmly described the harrowing moments before and after the crash.
"I didn't know if I was going to live or die," Hill said. "I didn't know what was going to happen at that moment."
Investigators said 21-year-old Tara Pierami slammed into Hill while she was driving in the wrong direction on WT Harris.
"I remember tumbling and hitting my head on the steering wheel, I remember the sound of the air bag coming out and the car rolling, and it was on its side," Hill said.
Hill, who is married and has two young children, said he tried to swerve out of the way when he saw headlights coming toward him, but couldn't get out of the way.
When he came to after the crash, Hill said his SUV was on its side and he had to climb out to safety.
"I tried to get out, but my leg was pinned from my knee down to my toe and I was able to climb out of the passenger side, which was facing up," Hill said.
Hill has torn ligaments in his knee, a broken ankle, bruised lungs and various cuts and scratches. He said his thoughts are with Pierami, who is in the hospital in critical but stable condition.
"Even though it wasn't my fault, I have concern for that other person, and making sure that person is OK," Hill said.
Police said Pierami has internal injuries and several broken bones.
The crash is still under investigation.
