ANDERSON, S.C. — Authorities say a Greenville County man is accused of killing a woman and trying to kill a man who gave him a ride on Christmas Eve morning.
Multiple media outlets report that 22-year-old John Asher Farrell Villarreal is charged with murder, attempted murder and carjacking. He's charged with killing 43-year-old Mary Marie Fowler of Greenville and shooting 44-year-old James Jerry Dobson II of Easley.
Anderson County Sheriff John Skipper says Dobson remains in critical condition. At a news conference Wednesday, Skipper said Dobson and Fowler stopped about 5 a.m. Dec. 24 along Interstate 85 to pick up a stranger. He says investigations haven't established a motive.
Farrell Villarreal was arrested Tuesday night and booked into the Anderson County Detention Center. It wasn't known Thursday if he has an attorney.
