CHARLOTTE — From parades and parties to cheering on the home team, here’s what’s happening around Charlotte this weekend.

Check out the all-new Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey “Greatest Show On Earth” at Spectrum Center. Action-packed performances run from Friday through Sunday in Uptown.

Kick off your weekend with cocktails at Discovery Place Science’s monthly party for big kids on Friday. Adults 21 and older can dance, see a science show, and explore the museum after hours during Science on the Rocks.

Sip on a warm beverage and enjoy live music during Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden’s Pickin’ on the Porch series, which takes place every Saturday through February.  

Get ready to get down with the Charlotte Symphony at its “Disco Fever” program at Knight Theater on Friday and Saturday. The symphony will host a family concert, “Gershwin’s Magic Key” on Saturday morning at Knight Theater.

Laugh out loud when actor and comedian Kevin Hart performs at Ovens Auditorium this weekend. At the time of this write-up, limited tickets were available for Sunday’s show. Friday and Saturday are sold out.

Foodies looking for a cool deal can check out Queen’s Feast: Charlotte Restaurant Week, which starts Friday and runs through Jan. 26. More than 100 restaurants across nine counties will participate in the promotion, offering three-course dining deals with prix fixe prices ranging from $30 to $50 per person.

Head Uptown and grab a spot along Tryon Street to watch the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Parade on Saturday. There will be marching bands, floats, and other festivities.

Remember when the photo of Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger at Charlotte’s Thirsty Beaver went viral? The popular dive bar is celebrating its 17th anniversary with a party and live music on Saturday.

Meet the avian ambassadors at the Carolina Raptor Center’s Bird-Day Party on Saturday. There will be activities, games, and special programs.

Cheer on the home team when the Charlotte Checkers take on the Hartford Wolf Pack at Bojangles Coliseum on Saturday and Sunday.

Celebrate the Lunar New Year at the Tết Festival at the Park Expo and Conference Center on Sunday. There will be Vietnamese food and music, dance performances, and other activities.

Wrap up your weekend on a positive note at VisArt Video and Café's “Cruelty-free Comedy” show on Sunday. The jokes won’t be dirty or cynical but uplifting, optimistic, and joyful.

On Monday, there are several celebrations taking place to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., including Levine Museum of the New South’s Family Day program, an event at Cornelius Town Hall, and the MLK Dream Day Parade and Dream Day event in Kannapolis.

Broadway fans still have time to be in the room where it happens! “Hamilton” is at Belk Theater through Feb. 2.
