CHARLOTTE, N.C. — At just 20, "Mijel" Houston is one of the youngest of the accused Blood gang members, and his attorney and family were hoping to convince a federal judge Friday that he was also one of the least culpable.

But the prosecutor said Houston sports a gang tattoo and was right in the middle of the gang's violent culture -- living in an apartment on Tara Lane with another gang member when Jamell Cureton allegedly called from jail to arrange a hit on Doug London and Debbie London, the owners of the mattress store that Cureton had allegedly robbed last May.

She also told the judge that he was in a threatening music video the gang posted on YouTube five days before the Londons were murdered in their home in October 2014.

The prosecutor said Houston was at that apartment on Tara Lane when gang members held what they called a "gruesome celebration" after the Londons were murdered.

Houston's attorney told the judge there was no evidence that Houston took part in the celebration or that he was on the phone when other gang members were planning the hit.

The judge refused to release Houston, who will stay in jail until his next court appearance.
