ROCK HILL, S.C. — The York County Council is going to move ahead with a huge land purchase known as Project Destiny.
The 1,900 acres of green space is along the Catawba River in eastern York County outside of Rock Hill.
Currently, it's mostly undeveloped woodlands on the river north of the Catawba Indian reservation.

Chopper 9 Skyzoom flew over the area Monday, and from the air, it appears the site could become an incredible public greenway. That's the vision of York County leaders, who are planning a $20 million bond to buy more than a dozen parcels that make up the site, off Neely Store and Clearwater roads.
Though county leaders have not announced specific plans for all that acreage, it's expected to create agritourism uses and offer recreation. Agritourism could include small farms where visitors can buy produce, ride horses, hike trails and partake in water-based activities.
A public hearing and a final vote to purchase the land were held Monday.
There will be intensive environmental studies to make sure there are no hazards on the property.
