YORK COUNTY, S.C. — York County leaders say more people are homeless than in previous years.

Teams of people walked the streets and into wooded areas counting every person living outside. They said the numbers are alarming.
“I just sat here for the first two days going, ‘Wow. Wow!’” said Susan Atkinson, a homeless advocate.
