YORK COUNTY, S.C. — A York County school bus driver was arrested Thursday morning and charged with Driving Under the Influence after failed field sobriety tests, deputies said.

No students were on the bus that Avery Neely, 60, was driving when the school district received calls about erratic driving. The students had already been dropped off at school.

After receiving the calls, the York County Schools District Director of Transportation told Neely to pull over and stop driving.

Police responded to the location and issued a series of sobriety tests. When Neely failed those tests, he was taken to the York County detention center.

The district said Neely has been suspended and they are conducting their own investigation as the York County Sheriff’s Office continues theirs.

No other information was released.
