CHARLOTTE — It was a red, white and blue affair Tuesday as Navy veteran Andy Tomsho celebrated a milestone 100th birthday with his daughter and granddaughter.
Tomsho, who lives in a memory care facility in north Charlotte, hasn’t seen his family in more than a year because of the pandemic.

“It feels good being around family. I missed them,” he said.
Tomsho spent four years in the military, serving in both World War II and the Korean War.
“We would not be able to live the life that we live with all these amenities without the sacrifices made by Andy,” said Joseph Reale with the American Legion, who helped organize a small ceremony to honor Tomsho’s centennial birthday and acknowledge his military service.
Tomsho’s daughter Elaine Postawa traveled from Newport, North Carolina, to be with her dad on the special day.
“It’s a very big gift to be able to celebrate this birthday with him,” she said.
Tomsho doesn’t show any signs of slowing down at 100.
“I feel good. I could run a mile if I had to,” he said.
