MATTHEWS, N.C. — A portion of Idlewild Road North remained closed early Tuesday between Lawyers Road and Harris Boulevard as crews worked for more than 12 hours to fix downed power lines.
Around 5 p.m. Monday, a wreck on Idlewild Road near Highway 51 in Matthews caused a massive power outage. Officials said a tractor-trailer collided with another vehicle and the crash took down a power pole and some lines.
Initially, nearly 5,000 Duke Energy customers lost power, but that number was down to 400 by 5 a.m.
By 7 a.m., all power was restored.
Those involved in the crash were not seriously hurt, police said.
