SALISBURY, N.C. — Britt Weaver believes that work on the $20 million redevelopment of the historic Empire Hotel in Salisbury will kick off by year-end, almost three years after the city and his preservation development company announced the deal.
Weaver, principal at Charlotte-based Black Point Investments, says the delays have been vexing but haven’t discouraged investors or developers. His firm plans to buy the 164-year-old hotel along with two other adjacent buildings and convert them into an apartment community with some commercial space.
Speaking at a Rowan County Chamber event Thursday morning that drew a capacity crowd of 150, Weaver compared the hotel project with four other historic preservation deals that Black Point principals are working on.
“It’s the best challenge we have had,” he says.
