NEWTON, N.C. — The Catawba County Sheriff’s Office identified a body that was found in the woods on Wednesday as Emily Elizabeth King.

Officials said King, 42, was a Newton resident.

The cause of her death remains under investigation, according to the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office.

EARLIER COVERAGE:

Deputies said the body was about 25 feet into the woods off Plateau Road near Trail Winds Street a half-mile from Fred T. Foard High School.

“Like anyone, I’m sure this lady has family that’s already looking for her and certainly would be concerned with this information and these developments,” said Capt. Aaron Turk, with the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said an autopsy will be scheduled Thursday in hopes of determining the cause of death.

The woman was middle-aged, deputies said.
