IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — Channel 9 has learned that police have arrested the wife of a man who was shot outside a Statesville school last fall.
Kaley Callicutt turned herself into the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office early Friday morning before appearing before a magistrate.
She's been charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and discharging a firearm on educational property.

Police said Callicutt shot her husband, Michael, at Central Elementary School last September.
His injuries were so severe that he remained hospitalized in critical condition for some time.
The couple was at the school picking up their third-grade son, and at the time of the shooting police said a second son was inside the vehicle.
Callicutt’s attorney said Friday that his client was surprised by the charges being filed so late and she maintains her innocence.
“Self defense and defense of others. It was an abusive situation that day,” he said. “She’s maintained her innocence," attorney Matt Benton said.
Officials said the delay in charging Callicutt was because the district attorney’s office wanted to wait for the results of the forensic testing before any decisions were made. The delay was about nine months waiting on those results.
The DA’s office declined to comment on why it took so long to bring the charges. Channel 9 tried to reach the victim’s family, but it did not get a response.
