SHELBY, N.C. — The Shelby Police Department is investigating after a woman was shot and killed outside of a home Monday night.
Police said they responded around 7:45 p.m. to the 600 block of Live Oak Street. At the scene, they found a woman lying in the front yard of the home with a gunshot wound. She was taken to an area hospital where she later died, according to police.

Police said the victim, 62-year-old Sarah Chambers, wasn’t involved in the fight nearby that led to the shooting.
Neighbors said Chambers was a minister and she fought against violence in the community.
No arrests have been made as of Wednesday morning, police said.
