CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A woman told police she saw a drone hovering outside her window at the upscale The Vue apartments in uptown Charlotte.
Residents said the man operating the drone was sitting in a car and the whole time he had a clear view inside multiple units of the apartment building.
Rochelle Lamontagne has an amazing view of uptown Charlotte.
LaMontagne and her husband were sitting on their balcony Sunday morning having coffee when they heard humming and then came face to face with a disturbing sight.
“It's almost like a peeping Tom that you can't get rid of,” she said.
The drone took a dive after they spotted it and continued to hover near other units of their apartment building, The Vue, LaMontagne said.
“He was very meticulous,” she said. “One window, then the next window, then the next window.”
Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are now investigating the incident.
LaMontagne said there is no doubt in her mind the drone operator knew what he was doing was wrong because it appeared he was hiding his face.
“He seemed like he had a method, a reason, something he was trying to do,” she said.
She wants people to be aware of their surroundings because drones can operate in all neighborhoods, not just uptown
“It's hard to think you're just sitting there enjoying yourself and somebody can just look in your windows,” LaMontagne said. “It doesn't matter where you live. They can get to you.”
This is the second time something like this has happened at The Vue, she said.
There have been no arrests.

Channel 9 has reported on several recent drone incidents in Charlotte.
A drone was spotted flying over the EpiCentre Friday night.
In June, a drone almost hit the Charlotte-Mecklenburg police helicopter over uptown, and another drone came close to a plane trying to land at the airport.
