Woman pleads guilty to embezzling over $1M from Charlotte-based company

CHARLOTTE — Christina Robinson, 52, of Fort Wayne, Indiana, pleaded guilty on Friday to embezzling over $1 million from her Charlotte-based employer.

She abused her position as the company’s controller making false and misleading entries in the company’s records to try to hide the theft, according to the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina.

She was using the company’s bank account to move the embezzled funds and withdraw them in cash. Robinson then made fake accounting entries in the books and records.

She admitted in court that she used the embezzled money to spend:

  • Over $330,000 in purchases
  • Over $324,000 in credit card payments
  • Over $80,000 in loan payments
  • Over $40,000 in mortgage payments
  • Over $35,000 in car payments

Robinson was released on bond after the plea hearing.

She still has a pending sentencing date where she could face up to 20 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for the wire fraud charges.

The FBI investigated the case.
