LENOIR, N.C.,None — A woman was pinned under her car for hours overnight as temperatures fell close to freezing.
The driver, Stacy Miller, got out of her car when it stopped working on Tuesday night. The accident happened near the Lower Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant in Lenoir.
Deputies said Miller had gone down the road around 11 p.m. When she realized it was a dead-end street, she tried to turn around, but couldn't because the reverse wasn't working. So, the 21-year-old got out of the car and began pushing the vehicle.
Deputies said the car rolled, pinning Miller under her bumper and against a bank.
Rickey Dula was getting ready to jump in his truck to go to work around 2:30 a.m. when he heard a cry for help he'll never forget. His wife, who made the call to 911, remembered hearing the dogs barking hours earlier but said when she went outside, she didn't hear anything.
Firefighters used equipment to pull the car off Miller, who had been stuck for so long that the car had run out of gas and the battery was drained. Deputies think she was pinned for three-and-a-half hours with temperatures in the mid-30s.
Miller was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center for treatment. Firefighters said the injuries to her legs are serious.
