Body found in Lincoln County pond IDed as suspect in shooting death of 35-year-old woman

LINCOLN COUNTY, N.C. — A body that was found in a pond Tuesday was identified as Tyrone Herriott, Jr., 30, of Sherwood Lane in Denver. Herriott was the suspect in the shooting death of Debra Ana Jackson, 35, the sheriff’s office said Wednesday.

On Monday, family members discovered Jackson lying in the front yard of her home on Sherwood Lane.

They were looking for the mother after Lincoln County Schools called to report that Jackson had not picked her kids up.

EMS and fire personnel went to the home to try and revive Jackson. They told deputies Jackson was shot in the head and thought someone may be inside the home.

Officers went into the home with a search warrant but didn’t find anyone.

On Tuesday, search teams found Herriott’s body in the pond, which was about 200 yards from where Jackson’s body was found.

Detectives said Wednesday that Herriott was still in possession of a handgun. The gun was apparently used to take his own life and in the shooting of Jackson.

Evidence in the case is being processed to confirm the exact cause of death.

The investigation is ongoing.
