Woman frustrated by issue with tax return

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — As we close in on the tax deadline, the North Carolina Department of Revenue said it is being flooded with phone calls.

Eyewitness News spoke to a woman who said she tried for a month to get through without any success.

Rashelle Basore said a mistake on her 2010 tax returns showed up this year. She didn't file a W2.

"The company I work for bought another company and unbeknown to me, we actually had two W2s that year and I only had provided one," Basore said.

She worked out a payment plan and thought the issue was resolved. She said she paid off what she owed, but on Feb. 13, she was notified by the Department of Revenue that it was withholding her return this year.

"I've called every day since then and nobody has answered. The phone has a busy signal," Basore said.

When Eyewitness News tried, we had the same problem.

"It should be handled over the phone. That's a simple thing to handle," Basore said.

Thursday, Eyewitness News was with her just before she went into a Department of Revenue building in Charlotte. She was told Raleigh hasn't processed the amendment she filed and is supposed to do so within six months.

"Big hassle, big hassle. I don't have time for this stuff. I really don't," she said.

Thursday morning, she got another phone call saying she would receive a refund within three weeks -- but said it all comes after weeks of frustration.
