Woman dies after encounter with alligator in South Carolina, officials say

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. — Deputies said a woman has died after an encounter involving an alligator in South Carolina Friday afternoon, WCIV reported.

Officials said they were called around 5 p.m. to Kiawah Island in Charleston County for reports of an encounter. Officers have not specified what the encounter with the alligator was.

Authorities said a deputy fatally shot the alligator and retrieved it.

The woman’s identity has not been released.

No other details have been released at this point.
